Managed Services Go Competitive, Continue To Target Large Enterprises, SMBs

Parsippany, NJ (PR WEB) November 7, 2007 – According to new research from The Telecom Intelligence Group's "InfoTrack for Enterprise Services (IES)," large systems integrators and managed-service providers are beginning to move below the first tier of medium business, and they are meeting competition from myriad providers.

The newest edition of the IES Managed Services U.S. Market Share Report also finds that:

   >> The managed-services market demand is high, and there appears little evidence that it will cool in the foreseeable future.

   >> In the large-business market, managed services remain highly competitive, and new competitors may be poised to participate in this market opportunity.

   >> The very large service providers are moving into the medium-business market segment and meeting new competitors that are expanding from positions in the small business market segment.

   >> And the small-business market is a free-for-all with managed service platform vendors providing low-cost premises and hosted solutions to VARs and technology distributors.

"There is an undeniable need and demand for managed services in the SMB market and virtually all offers carry a strong value proposition," comments Warren Williams, vice president/IES and author of the report. "From a channel perspective, manufacturers should consider partnering with e-tailers, retailers and distributors with SMB market segment solutions, and they should consider opening channel negotiations with VARs that currently offer or are planning to offer managed services. Such manufacturers as Intel and Microsoft have recognized the opportunity and are beginning to partner with managed-service platform vendors and managed service providers."

Williams also believes the shift of the telephony market to a software model coupled with low-cost managed services will have a decided impact on the winners and losers in the SMB market. As such, he adds, "IPT manufacturers should consider a similar 'sell-through' offer for their channels."

The Managed Services U.S. Market Share Report defines the channel composition for managed services in the Large Business (501+ employees), Medium Business (101 to 500 employees) and the Small Business (2 to 100 employees) market segments, and reports on service providers, recent events and trends that are shaping each segment. The IES Program publishes six comprehensive, primary research studies each year. Its three tracks (Managed, Maintenance and Professional Services) each include a semi-annual report that combines detailed competitor profile information, market trends and issues analysis, service offer details, end-user primary research, and market sizing and forecast data on the respective services markets.
